Edit, 13 September 2013: If you missed Rex’s shows and his radio appearance on Vocalo, hit play!
Joke lang… but I mean it. – my mom
In every joke, there is a nugget of truth.
I think that’s why many Filipinos and Fil-Ams connect so deeply with comedian Rex Navarette. His comedy, while hilarious for Filipinos and non-Filipino audiences alike, cuts to basic truths of life of an immigrant, challenges of growing up in a multigenerational household and negotiating America’s trials from the eyes and heart of a misunderstood kid. Rex keeps it real.
Rex is appearing in four shows for three nights – all at the Laugh Factory in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood, beginning with tonight’s 8 PM set! He’ll do another 8 PM show tomorrow night, August 29. On Friday the 30th, Rex will close out with two shows — 8 and 10 PM! Laugh Factory is at 3175 N. Broadway, Chicago, and tickets can be purchased at their website. Prices are $17 for general admission or $27 for VIP (very important Pinay). Two drink minimum. Make mine a vodka dirty!
Here are some of my favorite Rex Navarrete clips… SBC Packers (overseas Filipinos sending or bringing balikbayan boxes full of gifts to the homeland), Maritess and the Superfriends (Filipino domestic worker abuse) …. What are your favorites?
And if you somehow need further convincing to support your Husky Boy, tune your radio dials in tomorrow morning, Thursday, August 28, at 8:30 AM Central Standard Time — NO FILIPINO TIME — to Vocalo, where Rex will be interviewed by our very own Molly Adams and Brian Babylon of The Morning Amp. You can listen online at Vocalo.org (hit the play button on the left side of your screen next to the vinyl record) AND/OR at 89.5 FM, 90.7 FM or 88.7 FM depende lang where you are in the Chicagoland/Northwest Indiana area!
