This Google Map shows where I like to eat and drink in the city and surrounds. Click on a blue place marker to read my notes on what to order (given seasonality menu changes), hours and other cheat sheet stuff.
I recommend every single establishment on this map. After the jump, read more about a few of the restaurants, bars and other specialty food destinations.
Eating in Chicago
Nightwood in Pilsen. Chicago is cuckoo for brunch. Here’s one of the few spots that takes reservations for brunch. But you’ll also want to go for dinner and cocktails, too.
Ada Street on the Near North Side. A romantic dinner venue with small, tasty plates made for nibbling and sharing. Fantastic cocktails, too.
Hoosier Mama Pie Co in West Town. Handmade pie crust, hello? You must get the Jeffersonville.
Lou Mitchell’s downtown (near Union Station). Diner standards exceeded: breakfast all day, kitschy (cow bell!) and warm welcomes. Cash only.
Glenn’s Diner in Ravenswood. A relaxed, neighborhood setting for delicious seafood.
Drinking Responsibly in Chicago
Green Mill Cocktail Lounge. Pre-Prohibition bar, the best place to drink in town, hands down.
